Introducing our first jacket pattern. I originally made this jacket 3 years ago and I've had so many requests about my methods that I decided it is time to create the pattern: Paganoonoo Boro Jean Jacket. Our Most Popular re-pinned Pinterest Design !!

The classic cut and materials makes this a truly unisex garment with timeless appeal. Made with a waffle fabric kimono style robe, 5 to 6 denim jeans various shades, and a closure from a leather belt with buckle closure (optional).

The thing that is amazing, even magical about this jacket is that it looks good on such a wide variety of people. It was inspired by Japanese Boro clothing. I find the utilitarian nature of the garments appealing and the patchwork and repair process fascinating.  I really love the subtle color blocking from the different shades of the jeans. Another plus building upon the robe is the jacket is self-lined.

Paganoonoo's step-by-step illustrated upcycling instructions walk you through design choices as well as specific construction techniques. I you love sashiko or boro stitching this jacket is the perfect canvas.  It can also be made with standard features:

• Unisex Boro styled jacket upcycled from denim jeans
• Generous self-lined jacket with hip ease, 3/4 length sleeves & belt closure
• Eye-catching, creative use of jean details, color-blocking, patching and quilting
• One-of-a-kind wearable art piece

The Boro Jean Jacket silhouette works well with ALL FIGURE TYPES. The thing that is amazing, even magical about this jacket is that it looks good on such a wide variety of people and genders. Because of the generous kimono cut of the base robe, this design fits many sizes, from men's small to large, and women's medium to extra large. For very large sizes, a kimono base robe could be made from scratch (pattern not included), or a commercial robe could be enlarged with panels.

With upcycling, there is no need to print, cut out and tape together PATTERN PIECES. The starting materials are 3D garments, so instead the "pattern" is instructions and illustrations that define exactly what and where to cut (disassemble) and how to reassemble the pieces. You are purchasing a set of instructions that you print on 8.5" by 11" paper which can be put in a binder for future ease of reference.

ALL SIZES ARE INCLUDED in that the size/fit of the finished garment is determined by the size of the robe used, the other parts are self-scaling. ANYONE, any size, who can find a kimono style bath robe that fits the way they like across the shoulders and bust or chest can successfully fit this pattern.  For very large sizes, a kimono base robe could be made from scratch (pattern not included), or a commercially available robe could be modified with panels to enlarge the size.

The sewing is straightforward piece assembly, mostly using topstitching. Sewers with experience with mixing colors and shapes will fulfill their artistic dreams, but those just learning these skills will find they enjoy the challenge and growth to their creativity. Included in the instructions are 2 different example jacket designs to guide you.

ADDITIONAL BONUS - Includes a 4-page tip sheet on design elements, color selection, fit, garment care, and technical tips.

Upcycling our existing clothes into new fashions is good for the planet, and really great on the budget!!
